Traditional Chinese clothing is made from silk to resemble royalty and wealth, the (above) picture is from the Han dynasty, where the nobles wore these silk robes to attend rituals and ceremonies. Normally a more golden decorated robe would mean a higher rank, while the rest are dressed with a red detail. There was a great emphasize on the details on the dragons in the robes, this is to represent the might and power of the kings.
